For the second week in a row, Julianne Hough is on the top of our best tressed list! Last week, the Rock of Ages star wowed us with her messy updo and this week, we're totally digging her flirty updo.

At the U.K. film premiere of Rock of Ages, Hough wore her blonde locks in a high, wispy updo held back with a thin black headband. The look is fun, spunky and cute without being overdone, and it looks adorable with Hough's plunging black and white dress!

In our opinion, Emma Stone is one of the coolest chicks in Hollywood. She always seems down to earth, is hilarious, and her fashion and beauty looks are always a hit. This week, we're completely drooling over her glam curls!

Emma sported this retro look at the French premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man in Paris and we are adding it to our list of totally Pin-worthy looks. We love how much volume the left side has and how wispy the curls are, and the short, bob-like contrast on the right side is so chic. Emma finished the look off with shiny sideswept bangs and deep red lips.

How gorgeous does Blake Lively look in these glam curls? The Gossip Girl actress and Ryan Reynolds' main squeeze flaunted her sunny locks at the California premiere of Savages this week, and I'm drooling over the look.

Seriously, her hair looks like perfection -- shiny, voluminous and parted at the right point. A+ girl! The look is also a nice change from her signature casual beach girl strands, if you ask me. Blake complemented her look with a bold red lip and a sexy curve-hugging Zuhair Murad beaded gown.

The lobe: What is it and should you test it out this summer?

There are a lot of hot hair trends this season, and the lobe is at the top of that list! Today, we're exploring the look and letting you know how to make it work for you!

Summer's hottest hair trend!

There are a lot of hot hair trends this season, and the lobe is at the top of that list! Today, we're exploring the look and letting you know how to make it work for you!

We consulted Justine Piecuch, a hair stylist at Boston's renowned Jeffrey Lyle Salon, to get the scoop on summer's hottest hairstyle.

Here's what we found out!

What is it?: The lobe is a long bob.

What's its history?: "The lobe made its debut with a fun choppy angled version last year on Jennifer Aniston," Piecuch says.

Who it works best on: Piecuch says this style works best on almost any hair type and is best worn between the collar and slightly below mid neck line. "Depending on the look you're going for, either stick with one length or toss in subtle to choppy layers. If you're feeling super bold, get a bold bang!"

Why it's great: The lobe's length makes it a very versatile hairstyle. Since it's an easy style to work with, Piecuch says that women seem more apt to style and try new looks with a lobe.

Styling tips: You can wear your lobe in many ways, but one fun style Piecuch recommends includes lots of texture. To create the look, grab a clipless curling iron and hold it vertical to the head. Moving around the head, take vertical 1-inch sections and keep repeating until all hair is curled. From here, break up the curls by either blowing them with the dryer to mess them up or spraying in a texture spray for a beachy look.

Looking for more inspiration? This style also looks great ironed straight or quickly blown dry, Piecuch says.

Blake Lively has done it again: She's amazed me with her hair! Not hard to do when you have such gorgeous locks, but this week I'm obsessing over Blake's amazing fishtail braid. The Savages actress sported the look at her new film's NYC premiere, and a week later, I still can't get it out of my head.

Fishtail braids are SUPER hot right now, and I'm totally jealous that I can't rock one with my short hair, but I'm digging Blake's. The look is summer sweet and goes quite well with her lovely yellow gown. Want to recreate the look for yourself? Check out our tips here.

Flirty feminine hair

In this day and age, we’re all crunched for time. So going from work to happy hour with hair that suits any occasion is of utmost importance. Look and feel your best with a very versatile 'do that takes you anywhere. We’re falling for these flirty, fabulous, feminine styles that are perfect for day or night.

Bombshell Bardot hair

Get Brigitte Bardot-inspired hair a la Sienna Miller. Because, I mean... c’mon, how stunning does the star look here? So effortlessly chic!

To start your style, Paul Cucinello, Creative Director of the Chris Chase Salon in Chelsea, advises prepping damp hair with a light volumizing spray. "Evenly distribute throughout your hair, making sure to pay special attention to your roots. Next, blow dry hair with a large round brush, and lift at your roots to create volume in the crown." Give a generous spray of dry shampoo for texture. Gently tease the hair at your crown. And finally, lightly brush the crown back, gathering your hair in the center at the back of your head. "Secure with pins, being careful not to lose the volume you’ve created," says Paul. "And make a center part in front, stopping about 3 inches back."

Bangs, Bounce and Bouffant Retro Seventies

Bangs, bounce and bouffant retro seventies

Put a little bounce in your step and in your hair! This flirty, voluminous 'do looks fab for a fancy brunch with the girls or a special event on the town. To start, celebrity hairstylist Cesar Ramirez recommends spraying root boost all over your roots and blow drying hair with some major volume. “Section a front section of your hair to create a bang if you don’t have any,” he advises. “And using large rollers, wrap the back section of your hair away from the face.”

On the front section of your hair, use slightly smaller rollers and wrap the hair toward your face. With a blow dryer on a low heat setting, Cesar suggests blasting each roller for a few minutes, before letting them cool down for 10 to 15 minutes. “Once you remove them, flip your head over, brush your hair and finger comb through it with a finishing styling cream. Flip up, and voila! Beautiful bounce.”

Sweet But Sassy Knotted Chignon

Sweet -- but sassy -- knotted chignon

A classic bun looks gorgeous no matter where -- or when -- you wear it: to the beach, pool, office or club! Why not take things up a notch this summer though, and add a twist to your timeless chignon? We’re certainly all for it! Celebrity hairstylist and owner of C The Salon in Studio City, Claudio Lazo, explains how:

“First, brush your hair back into a low ponytail. Tie a knot through it, and pull the knot toward your scalp. Pin it in place, wrap your hair into a bun shape and secure.” Yep, it’s that simple.

This summer, it’s all about the bun! From messy top knots to chic chignons, buns are a great way to beat the heat and still look hot at the same time. We tracked down a few of our favorite hairstylists to show us how to recreate some of the looks we love. Check ‘em out below, and get inspired.

The classic chignon

Classics never go out of style, and in the case of the bun, this couldn’t be more accurate. Caile Noble, master stylist at the Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon in Los Angeles, spills his tips and tricks for achieving the perfect polished chignon in four simple steps.

The classic chignon

Step 1: Apply styling product

To prevent fly-aways and to do away with frizz, start by applying a styling paste or smoothing cream around your hairline.

Step 2: Pull hair back

Using a flat brush, pull your hair back into a low, tight ponytail with plenty of tension. Remember to keep your tresses taut and sleek, and secure the pony with an elastic hair band the color of your mane.

Step 3: Twist into a bun

Next, apply a small amount of styling cream or paste onto your pony. Twist it in one direction until you have a sleek and smooth chignon.

Step 4: Secure in place

Finally, using bobby pins that match your hair color, secure the bun in place, grabbing the back with a pin and anchoring it down behind the base of the ponytail.

The braided bun

Channel your inner Jessica Alba this summer, and mix things up with a funky, fun braided bun that works for day or night. Trust us -- it looks way more complicated to achieve than it actually is. Simply follow these tips, courtesy of Paul Cucinello, Creative Director of the Chris Chase Salon in Chelsea, and you’ll be good to go.

The braided bunStep 1: Tease hair

Start with hair that has been blown dry smooth using a large round brush. Tease lightly for volume, and direct the crown back to create a center part.

Step 2: Use pomade

Now, lightly coat your hands with a clear, thin layer of pomade. Use only a small amount -- just enough to get a bit of grip in the hair.

Step 3: French braid

French braid along your hairline, continuing back and over your ear. Secure with a pin, and repeat on the other side.

Step 4: Add small braids

Next, create a few small random braids. Secure the ends, and then tease the remaining hair in the back.

Step 5: Roll into a chignon

Last but not least, gather all of your hair and gently roll it into a soft chignon. Secure with bobby pins, and you’re all set.

The rolled top knot

Put a twist on the traditional top knot, and create a larger-than-life rolled bun. With a little help from celeb stylist Paul Cucinello, we’ll teach you how.

The rolled top knotStep 1: Spray with dry shampoo

First, flip your head over, and spray the interior generously with dry shampoo.

Step 2: Create a high ponytail

Gently back comb your hair, and pull it up into a high ponytail secured with an elastic hair tie.

Step 3: Divide into three sections

Divide your ponytail into three sections. Roll each section down to the base, and then secure with bobby pins. Finish off with a quick shot of dry shampoo , and you’re ready to "roll" -- quite literally!

Can I start off by saying I want my bangs to look this good? This week at Comic-Con, Lea Michele was rocking a sultry, summery look, and I definitely took notice. Let's break down the look: Her bangs are bangin', her ombre hair is so on trend for the season, and I'm loving the subtle wave going on here.

All in all, a really fun summer look, no? Sort of reminds me of Khloe Kardashian's enviable locks. In any case, I'm totally obsessed, and that's why Lea landed herself a spot as our Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Glowing Gleek

Lea Michele was glowing at last night's Teen Choice Awards, so naturally we wanted to steal her beauty secrets. We went straight to the source and sought out her hairstylist and makeup artist to get you the breakdown of her gorgeous look. You can thank us later!

Hair

Hair stylist: Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend

Inspiration: "For the Teen Choice Awards, I wanted Lea to look like a classic, sun-kissed California girl. I loved her Atelier Versace dress and wanted to show how a cool, young woman wears couture, so I kept her hair pretty natural with loads of texture."

Get the look:

  1. Start by applying a large amount of Dove Style+Care Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse to damp hair.
  2. Next, rough dry hair with your hands and with a diffuser attachment .
  3. When hair is dry, add another dollop of the mousse and scrunch it in hair to create fabulous texture.
  4. Taking 4-inch sections of hair, spray Dove Style+Care Thermal Replenishment Spray on hair, and then loosely wrap it around a 1-1/2-inch curling iron for a few seconds to give strands a loose wave.
  5. Next, spray Oribe Après Beach Spray all over while scrunching hair with your hands to create even more texture.
  6. Finish off with Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Flexible Hold Hairspray all over to help keep your fab 'do in place all night long without weighing it down.

Makeup

Makeup artist: Celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis for tarte

Inspiration: "The inspiration was California cutie meets couture! We really wanted Lea to look effortlessly gorgeous, so we kept the makeup simple and concentrated on bronzed, healthy skin but took it to the next level.”

Get the look:

Skin:

  1. Start by applying tarte’s new maracuja miracle 12-hour foundation to help create an even and glowing complexion.
  2. Next, pat on a bit of tarte’s maracuja creaseless concealer under your eyes and blend a tiny bit into foundation to help skin look flawless.
  3. Give skin a natural glow and freshness by swirling tarte’s cheek stain in true love onto the apples of your cheeks.
  4. Last but not least, make sure you keep skin shine-free with a bit of powder on your t-zone. Melanie recommends tarte's Amazonian clay finishing powder. And, make sure to dust a bit under your eyes as well, to set your concealer.

Eyes:

  1. For a simple look, emphasize eyes with tarte’s Amazonian clay waterproof cream shadow in shimmering bronze. “This added definition to her eyes while still keeping them natural looking,” Melanie says.
  2. Curl eyelashes to wake up your eyes, and apply two coats of tarte’s lights, camera, lashes! 4-in-1 mascara to define lashes and make them look fuller without creating clumps.

Lips:

  1. To accentuate bronzed skin, use your finger to apply tarte’s new glamazon pure performance 12-hour lipstick in pure. “It’s a light pink, and the creamy texture worked perfectly with her golden skin!” Melanie says.

Selena Gomez's braided hair

Selena Gomez is already as cute as a button, and one pretty lucky lady -- she is dating Justin Bieber, after all! -- and this week, the starlet was treated to a bit of pre-birthday pampering at the Nine Zero One salon in Hollywood. The salon's co-owner, Riawna Capri, transformed Selena's typically straight locks into a gorgeous "half way to LA" braid and I'm seriously wishing my hair was long right now.

Take a look at how cute the back of this 'do is especially, lovelies. The combination of beachy waves and a wraparound braid creates a super polished yet totally youthful and sweet look that we're all crushing on. It also goes quite well with her adorable Liz James Peyton Carnelian necklace!

Kate Middleton hair

Are you getting sick of Kate Middleton yet? Nope, I didn't think so! Besides the fact that she's a royal and totally gorgeous, Kate is simply a fashion icon in the making, and I love watching her every move. This week, the Duchess of Cambridge pulled her gorgeous brown hair back in a braided chignon at the UK's Creative Industries Reception in London.

Kate's pretty well-known for her simple yet stunning blowouts, and up until a few months ago, Mrs. Prince William was rarely caught with her hair up. Recently, though, she's been playing with a few new styles, and I couldn't be more pleased. I love how Kate chose a braided detail -- such a hot trend this summer! -- to give her normal chignon an extra pump of pizzazz, don't you?

Khloe Kardashian -- Before

Khloe Kardashian -- After

I have to admit it: Khloe has always been my favorite Kardashian. I love her humor, admire her body confidence and think she's an all-around fun chick. Now we've all been gushing over Mrs. Odom's ombre hair for quite some time now, but she recently opted for a hair switch up, and now we're obsessing over her new look!

Khloe stopped by the Andy Le Compte Salon in West Hollywood last week to pay a visit to Joico’s Celebrity Stylist George Papanikolas. While there, she ditched her tried and true ombre strands for the rich color she's flirted with in the past. After getting rid of Khloe's lighter tips and using three different color tones, Papanikolas achieved a rich chocolate color that looks totally gorgeous on Khloe.

Since fall is right around the corner, it seems like the perfect time to go darker, don't you think? If you're looking to pull off a darker shade yourself this season, Papanikolas suggests maintaining a steady hair care routine with Joico’s K-Pak Revitaluxe treatment. And hey, if Khloe stands by it, it must work, right? Just look at her hair.

Hairstyles for athletes: Best hairstyles for breaking a sweat

Haven't you ever wondered how Olympic athletes look so fab even when they compete? Celebrity stylist Keith Campbell has styled the strong and powerful Serena Williams, among other celebrity clients, and is sharing a few tidbits of expertise on the best hairstyles and hair care tips for the active girl.
Summer Games-inspired hair
Serena Williams Hairstyles

Haircare for the active gals

Yes, that's Serena Williams! Keith Campbell, who is known to give her locks some love, offered SheKnows a few pointers on hair care and styles for athletes.

Our USA athletes are kicking serious butt in the Summer Games, but we have to wonder if those feisty women have to go the extra mile to maintain their beauty regimen, too!

So, with the closing ceremony upon us, we're calling this year's games a wrap with a few closing statements on hair care. However you sweat, whether it's yoga, biking, running or winning Olympic medals, you can turn to Keith for a few pointers on looking fabulous during and after your workout.

What are the best workout-proof hairstyles?

"A tight pony tail is always sleek and in style, [and keeps] all your hair out of your face," said Keith. He also suggested a French braid on top of the head that pulls back into a pony tail. "[That] screams fashionably fit!"

Last but not least, he said that a tight chignon or bun works for keeping your hair in place for a workout and still maintaining a sense of style.

He also adds that one sure-fire way to keep hair in place during an intense workout is hairspray. He recommends Jonathan Product Finish Control Spray.

Hair products for active girls
TIP: Replace daily washes with dry shampoo, even if you work out regularly!

What are some hair products for active girls?

"Using products with UV filters is also especially important in order to protect hair from environment damage," says Campbell. He adds, "Using a hydrating balm is great because it will help tame the frizz."

So, in a perfect world, one product would hydrate and protect! You're in luck. He suggests this hydrating balm that fights frizzies and harmful rays. "It's a win win!"

How do we avoid over washing, without under washing?

My main question: If we're not supposed to wash our hair every day, how the heck do we avoid looking like zombies with greasy hair all the time?

Dry shampoo! That's Campbell's solution, "Dry shampoo is a great way to avoid over washing hair, since you really shouldn't wash your hair every day even if you're active. It's a great way to buy a few extra days before needing to wash your hair again."

We have a total hairstyle crush on Bella Thorne's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

If you have a tween in the house, or if you're obsessed with pop culture like we all are at SheKnows, then you know who Bella Thorne is. In case you don't, let me tell you! The cute young actress is the hit star of Disney's show Shake It Up and a budding superstar. Now that we have that covered, on to the matter at hand!

I spotted Bella last week sporting a totally adorable hairstyle on the streets of NYC and just had to gush a little about it, so indulge me a bit. The 'do is really quite simple, but it's so darn cute that I can't help myself. My favorite part of this pulled back look is the illusion effect. Notice how it almost looks like a half up, half down 'do?

With the bit of hair draped over her shoulder, it's hard to tell at first what's really going on here. But if you look closely, you'll be able to see it's a low ponytail -- right on trend for summer! -- and separated bangs. Genius, right? Like the saying goes, it's the simple things in life.

We have a total hairstyle crush on Lea Michele's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that Lea Michele has been positively glowing lately? Maybe it's the fact that her career is hotter than ever. Or maybe it's that hot candy she's got by her side these days -- ahem, Cory Monteith, I'm talking to you! Whatever it is that she's doing, it's working.

This week, Lea wore her tresses in a bombshell curly 'do at the Do Something Awards, and I can't get over how great she looks. I've always been jealous of her fab bangs, and now I'm sort of obsessed with the beautiful highlights in Lea's locks. The look isn't anything new; we've seen it on many a starlet, but it never seems to get old to me. Keep the beauty looks coming, Lea, I'm having a lot of fun following them!

The power of the pony

The ponytail really is a girl’s best friend. It’s reliable, steadfast and will do what it takes to go with you anywhere. Whether you’re going to the gym, running errands, going on a first date or are famous enough to make an appearance on the red carpet, the ponytail is ready to be by your side, or rather, on your head.

A girl's best friend

The ponytail really is a girl’s best friend. It’s reliable, steadfast and will do what it takes to go with you anywhere. Whether you’re going to the gym, running errands, going on a first date or are famous enough to make an appearance on the red carpet, the ponytail is ready to be by your side, or rather, on your head.

The ultimate power of the ponytail lies in its versatility. Whether you have medium length, wavy hair or long, straight locks, the ponytail can come to your style rescue.

Stylists have fun re-inventing the pony every year to complement the current fashion trends. In 2011, we saw a plethora of textured and messy ponies based at the nape of the neck. But 2012 runways have exposed the high, polished ponies in a variety of charming hues to pay homage to fashion’s recent celebration of color. Here is a sampling of ponies to inspire you the next time you go to pull your hair back.

Classic ponytails

Smooth and polished, pulled straight back and secured in the middle of the back of the head, you can never go wrong with a timeless, classic ponytail.

Low ponytails

Low ponies are seen all over the red carpet and are perfect for formal occasions. As you can see, they work with texture and are set to the side or sleek and down the middle -- even with shorter hair.

High ponytails

High ponytails are all the rage in 2012. Stylists are loving a high, polished pony. Rihanna shows that it can be fun with bangs and curls, whereas Eva loves a slick and sleek high set pony.

Lauren Conrad's dipped pink ponytail

When it comes to inspired hair, there is no such thing as a tame ‘tail. LC rocks a pink dipped pony look while Olivia Wilde had some fun with a highly stylized pony. Katy Perry epitomizes rock 'n' roll with her extra high, extra saturated brightly colored pony. Summer is the perfect time to experiment with different types of ponies to keep hair off your face and neck and keep you looking polished, powerful and cool!

We're obsessed!

We have a total hairstyle crush on Bridgit Mendler's chic 'do. Find out why in this week's installment of Celeb Hairstyle of the Week!

Let me introduce you to the most popular look in Hollywood the past month: the side swept bombshell hair. And Disney's Bridgit Mendler was caught sporting the amazing look this week on Much Music's NEW.MUSIC.LIVE while promoting her upcoming album 'Hello My Name Is...'

Let's take a moment to marvel at its awesomeness, shall we? First off, I'm obsessed with waves, curls and texture. I'm a curly girlie and I'm not a big fan of stick straight styles with no volume or oomph. And what I also love about this look is its versatility: You can totally dress it up or down depending on your outfit choice and your mood. Here, Bridgit dressed hers down with a fun graphic T-shirt, but we've seen plenty of other starlets sport their glam waves with eveningwear this season.

Mane Event Mondays: How to get effortless, flexible hair

We're partnering up with some of the hair industry's top talents to bring you answers to your most pressing hair questions. Up today? Justine Piecuch, a stylist at Boston's renowned Jeffrey Lyle Salon, is showing us how to get effortless, flexible hair that moves.

Woman with healthy wavy hair

Your question

How can I give hair movement and flexibility and also make it look effortlessly wavy at the same time?

@Sushiii01 via Twitter

Justine's answer!

This is a common type of question that I hear all the time. After all, we all want hair that moves and flows and blows in the wind. Now achieving it: That may be a different story.

The first thing I would say to getting hair like this is start with a good foundation: a haircut. And not just any old haircut. A great haircut will be tailored at the end by removing weight lines that are causing the hair to stack on top of itself. By removing the weight lines, the hair becomes seamless.

This technique is NOT to be done with thinning sheers, which can cause the hair to be wispy, fly away and sometimes frizzy. Make sure you're getting this cut from someone who truly knows their skill. Finding this stylist can be very tough, but I recommend doing some online research or asking someone with the hair you want where they go.

The rest of the work is easy from here. Split the hair into two sections, separating the top and bottom. Using a curling iron or a clip less curling iron , take one to two inches in width vertical sections, place the barrel in the middle and wrap the hair around and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat this all over the head until everything is complete.

This is how you'll get your flowing wave. Make sure the hair is dry before doing this and that you've used a thermal protectant to avoid any damage. Styling like this is very simple and shouldn't be given much thought for the best end result.

Be patient with your search and styling technique. If you have some questions, a good stylist will always take you through the steps and show you the correct way. Always remember to simply have fun with hair. After all, it's just another accessory!

Selena Gomez

This isn't the first time I'm gushing over Selena Gomez's hair; the adorable starlet has appeared on our Celeb Hairstyle of the Week before. This time around, I'm totally in love with the super cute chignon she wore this week at the Venice Film Festival. Isn't it pretty?

A couple of weeks back, I was obsessing over Kate Middleton's braided chignon, and I might even go as far as to say that Selena's is even cuter! I love the disheveled look going on here and think it makes Selena's fancy ensemble look a little less stiff than it might otherwise. What do you think?
